Vegan Options at Snowflake Malaysia Shaved Ice Dessert
In a hot and humid country like Malaysia, you’d want to cool off with some ice cream. If you’re vegan, you’d need to either think twice where you get ice cream, or opt for fruit sorbets (which are for me not so satisfying). Thankfully, there’s Snowflake! No, not the ones that come down from the sky during winter. There’s no winter in Malaysia — only sun and rain. So this is the perfect weather to enjoy some shaved ice desserts at Snowflake!
What Is Snowflake Malaysia?
Snowflake is a chain of dessert parlour in Malaysia serving a variety of shaved ice creations inspired by traditional Taiwanese desserts. They are committed to sustainability with natural, single-origin ingredients. Their desserts used to all be vegan (except for the creamer topping which can be opted out) but they’ve introduced new desserts that contain dairy.
There are only four Snowflake shops (at the time of writing) and they’re all within the Klang Valley area:
- Pavilion KL
- Kuchai Lama
- Sunway Pyramid
- Mid Valley Megamall
Vegan Options at Snowflake Malaysia
I’ve been a fan of Snowflake for many years and I almost always order the Matcha Ryo. Recently, I went to one of their shops and noticed they’ve added a couple of new desserts.
Coincidentally, someone was asking what’s vegan at Snowflake and so I took the liberty to ask the admin on Instagram. They replied quite swiftly with a satisfactory answer.
So take note dear vegans in Malaysia, specifically KL!
All the products at Snowflake are vegan EXCEPT:
- THE CREAMER — it contains casein and is added as condiment (which can be OPTED OUT) when ordering the following desserts:
- Bestseller Series
- Sesame Supreme
- Mango Supreme
- Mango Deluxe
- Uji Ryo Supreme
- Matcha Ryo Deluxe
- SNOWFETTI DESSERTS — this is the new set of desserts (namely Ceylon, Berry, and Chocolicious) which contains dairy milk as the base so you can’t modify or opt out.
They also affirmed that they use soy bean as the base for all their shaved ice products (sans creamer) except for the new items that are dairy-milk based and the Bestseller Series which are made of grass jelly.
Basically, all are vegan except for the creamer as condiment that you can opt out and the new Snowfetti desserts.
But if you want to be super sure, just ask the cashier.
(Let’s hope they know the products well!)
Snowflake Teas and Snacks
I’ve only eaten the shaved ice and was not aware of the teas and snacks until I checked out their website.
Nevertheless, I’ve asked the admin about them and here’s what they say:
❌ The teas contain dairy milk so they’re not vegan
✅All their desserts are vegan
Which Flavours to Choose? Depends What You Like!
The main flavours they have for their shaved ice desserts are mango, matcha, black bean and grass jelly. You can add extra toppings as well – I usually add extra taro balls.
If you get to try any of the vegan desserts at Snowflake, let me know! You are welcome to tag me on Instagram 🙂
